If you’re looking for a short nature trail with a big payoff, check out the mile long Barker Dam Nature Trail. Hours: Open 24/7 | Entrance: $25 per vehicle
So the Barker Dam is one of my go to hikes if I am bringing anyone into the park for the first time. It's a 1 mile loop that you can do fast or take it slow and check out the petroglyphs.
This is a trail roughly 30 minutes away from the location. There's many more. Feel free to google or ask me personally.
The trail is a 1.5 mile loop that takes 45 minutes-1 hour to hike. It is particularly full of life, as it's one of the few places to find water. Lots of vegetation such as pinon pine, juniper, manzanita, and Joshua trees, as well as beautiful rock formations. There's an area at the end of the trail with petroglyphs drawn by Native Americans.
This is my favorite hike. It’s easy for practically anyone and exhibits lots of the cool parts of our desert as far as rock formations and desert flora. About 20-30 to the end and then usually faster coming back. Climb the boulders at the end of the trail and look out over Joshua Tree!
